Army operating troops of the 61st Infantry “Hunter” Battalion of the 3rd Infantry “Spearhead” Division neutralized a CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNT) and recovered high-powered firearms and improvised explosive device (IED) on November 26, 2022 at Sitio Gibasya, Brgy. Tigbanaba, Igbaras, Iloilo.
Acting on a tip-off from the concerned residents, the troops immediately conducted pursuit operations in which they were able to encounter more or less 10 CNTs. The troops neutralized a CNT which was identified as Domingo Costas also known as “Evan” and “Ivan” (PSR-Listed), a member of Team 1, Squad 1, Sentro De Grabidad Suyak, Southern Front, Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay. Troops also recovered two M16A1 rifles, one AK47 rifle, one M203 Grenade Launcher, one rifle grenade, IED paraphernalia, assorted food packs, assorted medical supplies, and subversive documents.
The Army leadership commended the 61IB on their relentless efforts which resulted in the neutralization of a CPP-NPA Terrorist and the recovery of high-powered firearms and war materiel in Iloilo.
