The Magna Carta for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) was enacted by the Philippine Congress in 1991 as Republic Act 6977, amended by Republic Act 8289 and Republic Act 9501 in 1997 and 2008, respectively. The landmark legislation clearly defines the state’s policies to promote, support, strengthen, and encourage the growth and development of MSMEs.

Pursuant to Magna Carta for MSMEs, the National MSME Development Week is celebrated to institute the continuing and growing awareness of the critical roles of MSMEs in nation-building. The MSMEs comprise 99.51 percent of business establishments and employ about 63 percent of the country’s workforce, thus called the “backbone” of the Philippine economy. It is vital that ample opportunities and protection are provided to the local businesses.

Hence, the Department of Trade and Industry Laguna Provincial Office in partnership with the Provincial Government of Laguna, Enchanted Kingdom, and Laguna Chamber of Commerce and Industry being agents for inclusive business development brings in this year’s MSME Summit for Laguna entrepreneurs. This aims to apprise and serve as a venue for entrepreneurs and partners to collaborate and provide opportunities for wider access to finance, technology, and market.

Specifically, the Laguna MSME Summit 2023 aims to provide the participants with updates on government initiatives in relation to increased access to market, technology, and finance; encourage existing MSMEs to constantly improve and participate in various programs initiated by the government and also take advantage of the opportunities offered by various financial institutions in growing their businesses; and become a venue for participants to network with other MSMEs and stakeholders.

The Laguna MSME Summit 2023 offers simultaneous events such as summit conference mainly on relative programs and services from other stakeholders (Export Marketing Bureau, the Department of Science and Technology, Small Business Corporation, Card SME Inc., BPI Foundation, the University of the Philippines Los Baños, and the Food and Drug Administration); financial forum featuring invited financial institutions; and trade fair at the Agila Grounds (also located at Enchanted Kingdom) showcasing a dynamic platform to showcase and promote the diverse range of products originating from Laguna, encompassing fashion, culinary delights, and traditional crafts aside from Laguna native delicacies.

In addition to this, ceremonial awarding of certificates to 2023 KMME-MME mentee-graduates who successfully completed the modules for the Multisectoral Batch will be facilitated. KMME-MME Online is a

10-module mentorship program by DTI Laguna and Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship – Go Negosyo that capacitates its mentees with fundamentals of entrepreneurship. Also two successful Laguna business owners will impart their entrepreneurial journey toward success.
