In the midst of circulating rumors regarding a looming water shortage across Calamba, the General Manager of Calamba Water District (CWD), Mr. Jhun Aguilar, vehemently denied such claims in a recent interview. Aguilar attributed the decrease in water flow to leaks in the water lines, which the district is actively addressing.

Aguilar emphasized that despite the effects of the El Niño phenomenon, the CWD maintains sufficient water reserves in its reservoirs and pumping stations. He highlighted the district’s efforts to enhance its water system, including the acquisition of four 200-horsepower water pumps. Furthermore, Aguilar showcased the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for real-time water level monitoring accessible through mobile devices.

Aside from technological upgrades, Aguilar proudly announced the district’s transition from chlorine to UV ultra disinfection, resulting in minimal chlorine presence in the water supply. Regular maintenance of water sources, such as cleaning of springs, is also part of their strategy to ensure water quality.

“Calamba Water District is committed to providing clean and safe water to our community,” Aguilar reaffirmed. “There is no need for concern.”

In response to Aguilar’s statements, residents expressed relief and confidence in the district’s ability to manage the water supply effectively. “It’s reassuring to know that the water district is proactive in addressing potential issues,” remarked a Calamba resident.

However, some remain skeptical, citing previous instances of water shortages and service interruptions. “While the assurances are comforting, past experiences have left us wary,” said another resident.

In light of the ongoing concerns, Aguilar urged residents to report any water-related issues promptly. He emphasized the importance of community cooperation in maintaining the integrity of the water supply system.

Meanwhile, local authorities have echoed Aguilar’s message, assuring residents of their commitment to address any water-related challenges swiftly. “We are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to provide support as needed,” stated a city official.

As the region braces for potential water scarcity due to climate variability, Aguilar emphasized the importance of water conservation efforts. “Every drop counts,” he emphasized, urging residents to practice responsible water usage to mitigate the impact of fluctuations in water availability.

While rumors of a water shortage continue to circulate, Calamba Water District remains steadfast in its commitment to providing ample and safe water supply to the community. With proactive measures in place and ongoing efforts to enhance the water system, residents can rest assured that their water needs will be met, even amidst challenges posed by climate variability. However, vigilance and cooperation from residents are crucial in ensuring the sustainability of the water supply for generations to come.
