To strengthen disaster resilience in Carmona, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) CALABARZON, through its Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program of DOST Cavite, successfully installed innovative weather monitoring systems on July 10, 2024. The installation included one Automated Rain Gauge (ARG) and one Water Level Monitoring System (WLMS), both developed by the DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI).

This groundbreaking initiative aims to significantly enhance Carmona’s weather monitoring capabilities, improving disaster preparedness, prevention, and mitigation efforts. The ARG and WLMS provide real-time data on rainfall intensity and water levels, essential for early warning systems and timely responses during severe weather events. This technology ensures better public safety and raises community awareness, marking a pivotal advancement in Carmona’s resilience against natural disasters.

The installation was a collaborative effort led by the Carmona Office of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (OCDRRMO) and key personnel, including Mr. Rommel DL. Peneyra, head of OCDRRMO, along with Messrs. Artemo S. Angelada, Joseph B. Medina, Benson R. Pampuan, and Carlito C. Rivera.

The deployment of these advanced systems highlights DOST’s dedication to harnessing technological innovation for sustainable development and disaster risk reduction in the region. The systems are expected to empower local authorities and residents, enabling them to manage and mitigate the impact of environmental challenges proactively.

This activity aligns with the celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month in July 2024, reflecting the ongoing commitment to enhancing disaster resilience nationwide.
