Laguna – On the evening of August 1, 2024, operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Seaport Interdiction Unit-Batangas and PDEA Laguna Provincial Office conducted a significant interdiction operation in Barangay Tubigan, Biñan City, Laguna. Acting on a tip-off from a vigilant courier company supervisor, the operation led to the discovery of a large sack containing 56 parcels of various sizes.
The parcels, suspected to contain dried marijuana leaves, were later confirmed to weigh approximately 7,000 grams. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is around Php840,000.00. This operation is part of PDEA’s continued efforts to combat the distribution and sale of illegal substances in the region.
PDEA Regional Office IV-A has initiated an on-going investigation to identify and apprehend the senders of these parcels. Those responsible will face criminal charges under Republic Act No. 9165, also known as The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This law imposes strict penalties for the production, distribution, and possession of illegal drugs, including marijuana.
The successful operation underscores the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the community in the fight against drug trafficking. PDEA urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help keep communities safe.
This significant seizure serves as a reminder of the persistent drug threat in the country and the continuous efforts needed to eradicate it.
