Murder Suspect Killed in Armed Standoff During Joint Police Operation in Calbayog City

Laguna – On August 11, 2024, a coordinated law enforcement operation involving personnel from the 123rd Special Action Company (123SAC), the 12th Special Action Battalion (12SAB) of the Special Action Force (SAF), and the Calbayog City Police Station, along with other Philippine National Police (PNP) units, led to the death of a murder suspect in Brgy. Victory, Calbayog City, Samar.

The operation aimed to serve a warrant of arrest against Danilo J. Elbano Sr., who was wanted for murder under Criminal Case No. 7550-54, as issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 32 in Calbayog City on March 8, 2016.

Upon attempting to apprehend Elbano, he resisted arrest, resulting in an armed confrontation with the authorities. The situation quickly escalated, and the officers were forced to use necessary force, which led to Elbano sustaining gunshot wounds. The authorities seized a .45 caliber pistol, along with four rounds of live ammunition and four spent cartridges.

Despite efforts to save his life, Elbano was pronounced dead on arrival at the Calbayog District General Hospital. The seized items were taken into custody by the Calbayog City Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.

This operation underscores the dedication and resolve of the PNP SAF and other law enforcement agencies in Samar to uphold the rule of law and ensure that those who break the law are brought to justice. The PNP remains committed to its mission of safeguarding the community and pursuing justice for all.
