Former Team Leader of a Communist Terrorist Group Surrendered

Davao del Norte – On August 19, 2024, personnel from 15SAC, 1SAB of SAF together with the elements of Regional Intelligence Unit 11, Davao as lead unit and other PNP units successfully facilitated the voluntary surrender of alias Arnel during counterinsurgency operation conducted in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte.

Arnel is a former member of the Communist Terrorist Group. He was listed in the Periodic Status Report in 2014 and served as the team leader of Abe, Tersera, Pulang Bagani Command 3 under the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee, which operated in the areas of Maco, Mabini, Mawab, and Pantukan, all located in Davao de Oro. After witnessing many of his comrades surrender, he decided to do the same, prioritizing the safety of both himself and his family.

City Intelligence Team, Davao RIU 11 took custody of the surrenderer for documentation, proper disposition, and enrollment in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.

The operation underscores the effective strategy of the PNP SAF and other law enforcement agencies in fostering peace and stability in the region. The government remains committed to offering greater opportunities for individuals who choose to leave armed conflict behind and pursue a peaceful life. #SAF
