CALAX Governor’s Drive Interchange Reaches 25% Completion, Set to Boost Cavite’s Economic Growth

CALABARZON, Philippines – MPCALA Holdings Inc., the concessionaire of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), announced that the Governor’s Drive Interchange has reached 25% completion, with the project on track to open by the first quarter of 2025. Once operational, the interchange is expected to decongest key roads in Cavite, particularly Aguinaldo Highway in Silang, and stimulate economic activities across the province.

Spanning 7.8 kilometers from the Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to Governor’s Drive, this segment will be the longest operational section of CALAX by early 2025, even as two other segments continue construction. The project’s ongoing works include excavation, bridge, and drainage construction, as well as the installation of fences.

Raul Ignacio, President and General Manager of MPCALA Holdings Inc., acknowledged the challenges posed by recent typhoons but reaffirmed the company’s commitment to deliver the Governor’s Drive Interchange on schedule.

“Despite the challenges brought by recent typhoons, we are committed to ensuring the timely delivery of this vital infrastructure. Once operational, it will ease traffic, offer faster routes for motorists, and help drive economic growth throughout Cavite and CALABARZON,” Ignacio stated.

In addition to the Governor’s Drive Interchange, the Open Canal Interchange and Kawit Interchange are also progressing steadily, at 15% and 25% completion respectively. Both segments are expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2025, ultimately connecting CALAX to the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) via the CAVITEX-CALAX Link. Currently, the entire CALAX project is 64% complete.

CALAX, which currently serves over 45,000 motorists daily, is projected to handle at least 95,000 vehicles per day once fully connected to CAVITEX. This will significantly improve traffic flow and accessibility between Cavite, Laguna, and Metro Manila.

CALAX is a 45-kilometer, four-lane expressway designed to reduce travel time between CAVITEX (Kawit) and SLEX (Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna) from two hours to just 35 minutes, enhancing connectivity between NCR and the CALABARZON region. It includes eight interchanges, with five already operational.
