MPT South Projects 30% Traffic Growth by 2025, Driven by Key Infrastructure Developments

MPT South, a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), is forecasting a significant increase in traffic flow, with an estimated growth of over 30% by the end of 2025. This translates to over 340,000 motorists daily, up from the current 259,815. This surge is expected to be driven by the completion of crucial segments of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) and the CAVITEX C5 Link.

The key projects contributing to this growth include the CALAX Governor’s Drive Interchange, Open Canal Interchange, and Kawit Interchange. In addition, the C5 Link Segment 3B will connect the current Sucat Interchange to the C5 Link Flyover Extension, running from SLEX-Taguig to E. Rodriguez in C5. The CAVITEX-CALAX Link, currently under construction, will integrate these two major toll roads, creating a smoother, more efficient connection for motorists.

These projects are set to begin commercial operations before the close of 2025, expanding MPT South’s road network to a total of 67 kilometers. With these new segments in place, motorists will experience enhanced travel times and greater accessibility across Southern Luzon, particularly benefiting daily commuters and regional businesses.

MPT South President and General Manager, Mr. Raul L. Ignacio, emphasized the broader economic implications of these infrastructure developments. “Beyond improving the driving experience, our projects aim to foster economic growth by enhancing accessibility. Once completed, our expressways will support over 340,000 motorists, boosting regional economic activity,” said Ignacio.

To realize these ambitious plans, MPT South is committing Php14 billion in capital expenditures for 2025, earmarked for both the construction of new segments and the maintenance of existing infrastructure. Ignacio also acknowledged challenges such as right-of-way delays and recent typhoons but reiterated the company’s commitment to delivering the projects on schedule.

Once fully operational, the expanded expressway network is expected to further stimulate economic growth in the region by enabling faster, more efficient transport of goods and services between major industrial and commercial areas. This will also lead to reduced fuel consumption and lower vehicle emissions, contributing to nationwide sustainability efforts.

MPT South operates under MPTC, which also holds rights for several other major toll roads in the country, including the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX). The company continues to play a vital role in the country’s infrastructure development.
