SANTA CRUZ, LAGUNA – Congressman Dan Fernandez of Sta. Rosa and Gem Castillo Amante, wife of San Pablo City Mayor Vic Amante, have officially joined the race for Laguna’s top provincial posts. Filing their Certificates of Candidacy (COC) on October 6, the pair announced their plans to bring significant changes to the province if elected, with a particular focus on healthcare and social services.

Fernandez, a first-term lawmaker under the National Unity Party (NUP), is campaigning for the governorship, while Amante is running for vice governor. Both have established reputations in Laguna, especially for their efforts in healthcare. Fernandez, who has built over 10 health centers in Santa Rosa City, aims to extend his healthcare initiatives across the province, prioritizing reforms that will support healthcare workers and improve medical facilities.

Gem Castillo Amante, known for her community work in San Pablo City, has partnered with her husband, Mayor Vic Amante, in leading various welfare projects, particularly aimed at underprivileged families. Her candidacy for vice governor brings her local governance experience to the forefront, as she seeks to broaden her impact by focusing on health and social services across Laguna.

The Dan-Gem ticket enters an increasingly competitive race for Laguna’s top positions. Fernandez and Amante are up against several high-profile contenders, including former 3rd District Representative Sol Aragones of the Akay National Political Party, incumbent 2nd District Representative Ruth Hernandez of Lakas-CMD, and Vice Governor Karen Agapay of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) “Ang Laging Naka-AGAPAY”. Each of these candidates has their own strong support base, making this gubernatorial race one of the most closely watched in Laguna.

Despite the tough competition, Fernandez and Amante are expected to draw significant backing from their respective constituencies. Fernandez’s legislative achievements and Amante’s extensive community engagement have built them a solid reputation among voters, particularly in their focus on healthcare and welfare for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
