Over 500 Filipinos in Lebanon Opt for Voluntary Repatriation Amid Escalating Conflict

As the conflict between Israeli forces and Hezbollah intensifies, more than 500 Filipinos in Lebanon have chosen to avail of voluntary repatriation, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Saturday. The escalating violence has raised concerns for the safety of Filipino workers in the region, prompting many to seek assistance from the Philippine government for their safe return.

The DMW reported that out of the 350 Filipinos currently undergoing repatriation processes with Lebanese immigration, 178 are temporarily sheltered in facilities in Beirut. These shelters offer a safe space for Filipinos waiting for clearance and travel arrangements to be finalized as they prepare to return home.

In addition, 221 Filipinos have already secured tickets and are scheduled to fly back to the Philippines between October 12 and October 28. This group consists mainly of overseas workers who have opted for early repatriation as a precautionary measure, fearing the potential escalation of violence in the region.

The Philippine government, through its embassies and consular offices, is closely coordinating with Lebanese authorities to ensure a smooth and safe process for repatriating its citizens. Efforts have been ramped up as tensions continue to rise, with both Israeli forces and Hezbollah engaged in frequent exchanges of fire along the Lebanon-Israel border.

The DMW has reassured the families of overseas workers that they are doing everything in their power to provide safe passage for Filipinos in conflict zones. The agency has also encouraged other Filipinos in Lebanon who wish to return home to coordinate with local authorities to ensure their safety during these uncertain times.
