CALAMBA DECLARE STATE OF CALAMITY AMID TYPHOON KRISTINE’S DAMAGE

CALABARZON, Philippines – Several areas in the CALABARZON region, including Calamba City, have declared a state of calamity in response to the severe damage left by Typhoon Kristine. According to the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) of CALABARZON, approximately 24,504 families, equivalent to 91,745 individuals, have been affected throughout the region.

The declaration enables local governments to utilize their Calamity Funds or Quick Response Funds to support immediate relief operations and speed up aid distribution to residents in need. In Calamba City, the Sangguniang Panlungsod passed City Resolution No. 543, officially placing the city under a state of calamity upon the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CDRRM) Council.

With this status, Calamba will access emergency funds to provide relief goods, support evacuation centers, and implement a price freeze on basic commodities to ensure affordable food, water, and medicine for affected residents. The funds will also facilitate urgent repairs of damaged roads and public infrastructure, which are essential for restoring normalcy in the city.

Furthermore, an Emergency Shelter Assistance program will be activated to help families who lost their homes rebuild and recover. Through the Ramdam na Reporma initiative, Calamba is committed to fast and effective service delivery for every Calambeño impacted by the typhoon.

The entire CALABARZON region remains vigilant, as local government units and communities continue to collaborate to secure safety and recovery in the aftermath of Typhoon Kristine.
