Army’s 2nd Infantry Division Seizes War Materials in Clash with NPA in Oriental Mindoro

— The Army’s 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division (2ID) scored another victory in its campaign against insurgency after recovering war materials from New People’s Army (NPA) terrorists during an encounter in Sitio Parakasoy, Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro, at around 10 a.m. on December 5, 2024.

According to a report from the 203rd Infantry Brigade, troops from the 4th Infantry Battalion were conducting peace and security operations in response to a tip-off from vigilant residents when they encountered remnants of the NPA operating in the area.

The firefight, which lasted approximately 15 minutes, forced the terrorists to retreat northward, carrying their wounded. During the operation, soldiers seized an M16 rifle, a bandoleer with six fully loaded magazines, a rifle grenade, personal belongings, and subversive documents.

Major General Cerilo Balaoro Jr., commander of the 2ID, credited the success to the continuous security operations and the invaluable support of the local population. He highlighted the critical role of residents in providing timely information that hinders the NPA’s efforts to regain influence in Southern Tagalog.

“Our people are now actively engaged in our security campaigns by sharing vital information on terrorist movements and activities,” said Maj. Gen. Balaoro. “This collaboration ensures that any attempt by the NPA to recover influence in Southern Tagalog will fail.”

The military noted similar encounters in Laguna, Occidental Mindoro, Camarines Norte, and Batangas in recent months, resulting in the deaths of NPA members and the confiscation of firearms and subversive materials.

The Army continues to urge residents to report suspicious activities, reinforcing the partnership between local communities and security forces to maintain peace and order in the region.
