Soldiers Seize NPA War Materiel After Fierce Oriental Mindoro Clash

CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal – Philippine Army troops have dealt another blow to the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) after seizing war materiel in the aftermath of a firefight in Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro, on Saturday, March 1.

According to the 203rd Infantry Brigade, soldiers from the 4th Infantry Battalion were conducting focused military operations in Sitio Lumboy, Barangay Panaytayan, when they engaged NPA rebels in a 25-minute gun battle. The insurgents were forced to flee, leaving behind vital supplies and fortifications.

Government forces sustained no casualties, while losses on the enemy side are still being verified.

Following the encounter, troops discovered 14 bunkers, an early warning device, and a designated NPA lecture area. Seized items included a bandolier, a long M16 magazine, 123 rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition, and personal belongings.

Major General Cerilo Balaoro Jr., commander of the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division, emphasized that the operation significantly weakens the NPA’s capacity to conduct further attacks.

“We are further intensifying our operations to dismantle their remaining strongholds and prevent them from sowing fear and violence in our communities,” he stated.

Maj. Gen. Balaoro reiterated his call for remaining NPA members to surrender and take advantage of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) to reintegrate into society and rebuild their lives peacefully.
