Cayetano nanawagan ng pagkakaisa at ‘wisdom’ sa paghawak sa impeachment case

Nanawagan si Senador Alan Peter Cayetano nitong Lunes sa kaniyang mga kapwa senador na itigil na ang sisihan at magkaisa bilang isang Senado sa gitna ng mainit na usapin kung paano haharapin ang impeachment complaint laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.

“Napakahirap po ng sitwasyon natin. ‘Wag na tayong magsisihan. Maybe that’s why Shakespeare said ‘if you want justice, kill all the lawyers’ kasi nga labanan ng abogado ito. It’s unfair to just blame the Senate President,” sabi ni Cayetano sa sesyon ng Senado nitong June 9.

Pinaalala niya na wala namang tumutol nang i-adjourn ang sesyon noong February 5 nang ipadala ng Kamara ang impeachment case, kahit lahat ng senador ay naroon at alam ang nangyari.

“Twenty three (23) naman tayong senador, conscious naman tayong lahat noong February 5, nandito naman tayo. Pwede naman tayo mag-object noong nag-adjourn, n’ung finile ’yan,” wika niya.

Sa halip na balik-balikan ang mga nagdaang desisyon, sinabi ni Cayetano na mas dapat pagtuunan ng pansin ng Senado ang susunod na hakbang.

Ayon sa kanya, mahirap ang sitwasyon ngayon at alam niyang maraming mata ang nakatutok sa Senado.

“As the Minority Leader [Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III] said, nandiyan na ‘yan [impeachment complaint.] ‘Wag na natin tignan y’ung nakalipas, forward na tayo,” aniya. “I pray for wisdom for all of us, and I ask everyone to continue to pray for wisdom.”

Sa gitna ng tensyon at mga legal na argumento, binigyan-diin ni Cayetano ang kahalagahan ng pagkakaisa at unified decision.

“The reality is we will be acting as a body, and the vote will matter. We have to find it in our hearts that even if we disagree, we support the chamber,” sabi ni Cayetano.
Dagdag pa niya, dapat tiyakin ng Senado na parehong legal at moral ang mapagkakasunduang hakbang.

“The reality is may tama at mali, moral at immoral, may legal at illegal. Hopefully doon po tayo sa tama at hopefully ang legal ‘yun din ang moral,” wika niya.
