DOJ, PNP-CIDG at PCG Nagsimula na ng Site Assessment at Underwater Search para sa mga Nawawalang Sabungero sa Taal Lake

BATANGAS — Sinimulan na ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), sa koordinasyon ng Department of Justice (DOJ) at Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), ang ocular inspection, site assessment, at underwater search and retrieval operations sa Taal Lake kaugnay ng kaso ng mga nawawalang sabungero.

Ayon sa PCG, layunin ng operasyon na i-validate ang mga pahayag ni Julie Patidongan, alyas “Totoy” — ang itinuturing na whistleblower sa kontrobersyal na kaso ng mga sabungerong iniulat na dinukot at pinaslang noong mga nakalipas na taon.

Pinagkalooban ng lokal na pamahalaan ng Talisay, Batangas ang paggamit sa bahagi ng Talisay Fish Port bilang base ng mga kagamitan at tauhang magsasagawa ng operasyon.

Ipinahayag ni PCG spokesperson Capt. Noemie Guirao-Cayabyab na ito ang kauna-unahang pagkakataon na magsasagawa ang Coast Guard ng ganitong klase ng operasyon sa Taal Lake. Aminado si Cayabyab na malaking hamon para sa kanilang technical divers ang lalim at lawak ng lawa, na tinatayang siyam na beses na mas malaki kaysa sa lungsod ng Maynila.

Samantala, naka-standby naman ang Philippine Navy sa pamamagitan ng kanilang Naval Special Operations Command. Ayon kay Rear Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr., bago tuluyang isabak ang kanilang mga divers mula sa Naval Special Operations Group, kinakailangang magsagawa muna ng masusing pag-aaral ukol sa lalim at kondisyon ng lawa. Maaaring gamitin ang unmanned underwater vehicles o surveillance drones upang mapadali at mapalawak ang search area.

Dagdag pa ni Rear Adm. Roy Vincent Trinidad, isinasaalang-alang din nila ang kasalukuyang volcanic activity ng Taal Volcano, kaya’t pinag-aaralan din ang alternatibong mga paraan upang matagpuan ang mga labi ng mga sabungero o anumang ebidensya sa ilalim ng lawa.

Ayon naman kay PNP spokesperson BGen. Jean Fajardo, may iba pang alternatibong lokasyon na patuloy ding sinusuri ng mga imbestigador base sa mga impormasyong nakalap mula sa mga testigo at intelligence reports ng PNP at DOJ.

Magugunitang sinabi ni alyas “Totoy” na karamihan sa mga sabungero ay pinaslang at inilibing sa ilalim ng Taal Lake, habang ang ilan ay posibleng itinapon o inilibing sa ibang lugar sa lalawigan ng Batangas.
