MPT South Boosts Marine Protection with Nearly 20 Tons of Coastal Waste Collected

Metro Pacific Tollways South (MPT South), a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by participating in the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day 2025, a global initiative dedicated to protecting oceans and coastlines.

In partnership with the City Environment and Natural Resources Offices of Bacoor, Cavite, and Santa Rosa, Laguna, MPT South employees volunteered in cleanup drives at Brgy. Caingin in Santa Rosa and Brgy. Maliksi 1 in Bacoor. Volunteers also donated cleaning materials—including boots, sacks, brooms, gloves, and garbage pickers—for the Las Piñas–Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP), a Ramsar site managed by DENR to preserve its biodiversity.

The cleanup efforts resulted in significant waste collection: 12,039 kilograms of debris removed from Santa Rosa’s coastline and 7,275 kilograms from Bacoor. Collected items included residual waste, plastics, foams, and wood debris.

“Protecting our coastlines is vital for the health of our community and future generations, and our duty doesn’t end after the International Coastal Cleanup Day,” said Arlette V. Capistrano, Vice President for Communication and Stakeholder Management of MPT South. She noted that the company’s ongoing environmental programs—including cleanup drives, tree planting activities, and participation in ICC—highlight MPT South’s long-term commitment to sustainable development.

In August 2025, MPT South received two Green Awards from the Santa Rosa City Government: a Plaque of Appreciation as a Sustainable Development Partner and an Earth Hour Advocate Award, its third consecutive recognition.

The company’s initiatives support its broader sustainability goals, which focus on reducing environmental impact, preserving waterways, promoting eco-friendly infrastructure, and fostering environmental responsibility within communities.
