CALAMBA POSO Addresses Traffic Concerns, Begins Assessment of “No Batak System” to Identify Long-Term Solutions

Calamba City, Laguna — The Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) has released an official statement addressing the growing public discussions on traffic congestion in Calamba, particularly along the National Highway from Crossing to Bagong Kalsada.

POSO Chief Ret. P/Supt. Conrado “Boy” Masongsong said the agency welcomes suggestions from motorists and netizens as they continue to evaluate the impact of operating fully on traffic lights without the traditional “batak system” or manual traffic direction.

“We welcome any suggestions or recommendations from motorists and other netizens, particularly those who are affected by the traffic flow,” Masongsong said.

According to him, POSO is currently observing and comparing the traffic situation during weekends under the no-batak setup. The results will guide the city in deciding which traffic management strategy is most effective.

Masongsong also acknowledged that public opinion on the matter is divided.

“Not everyone is in agreement with the no batak system, as there are also many who support it. That is why we are conducting this comparison and determining the most effective solution,” he added.

He emphasized that traffic congestion is a complex, long-standing issue faced not only by Calamba but also by other cities, provinces, and Metro Manila. Contributing factors vary and will be studied in-depth during the planned Traffic Summit next year.

“We are not superheroes, and there are various factors contributing to the traffic in Calamba. Rest assured that we are exerting our best efforts to address this long-standing issue in our beloved city,” Masongsong said.

The POSO chief appealed for public patience and cooperation as the city works toward short- and long-term traffic solutions.

The city government is expected to release further updates once the ongoing assessments are completed.
