QUEZON—Labindalawang indibidwal ang inaresto ng mga awtoridad matapos salakayin ang isang warehouse na umano’y ginagamit sa operasyon ng illegal fuel o tinatawag na “paihi” sa Barangay Sta. Catalina Sur,bayan ng Candelaria.

Pinangunahan ng Luzon Field Unit ng Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (LFU-IMEG) ng Philippine National Police ang operasyon, kasama ang Special Action Force at ang mga miyembro ng Candelaria Municipal Police Station.

Ayon sa IMEG, bunga ang operasyon ng matagal na intelligence build-up at surveillance matapos matukoy ang ilegal na aktibidad na umano’y pinatatakbo ng isang aktibong pulis na may ranggong Police Master Sergeant, katuwang ang isang retiradong non-uniformed personnel at ilang sibilyan sa lalawigan ng Batangas at Quezon.

Base sa report, ipinatupad ang search warrant na inilabas ng Regional Trial Court, Branch 53 ng Lucena City sa isang warehouse na nasa kahabaan ng San Juan Candelaria Road kungsaan nadiskubre ang malawak na imbakan ng pinaghihinalaang ilegal na fuel.

Nasamsam sa operasyon ang ilang Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) na naglalaman umano ng gasolina at methanol, gayundin ang apat na tanker truck na ginagamit bilang imbakan at pang-transport ng fuel at kemikal.

Tinatayang aabot sa 5,432,000 pesos ang kabuuang halaga ng mga nakumpiskang ebidensiya.

Ang 12 na naaresto ay mahaharap sa kasong paglabag sa Presidential Decree No. 1865 kaugnay ng Republic Act No. 8479 o ang Oil Deregulation Law.
