A major hospital improvement project of the Provincial Government of Laguna is steadily moving forward following an inspection at the Dr. JP Rizal District Hospital in Calamba City on February 16, 2026. Governor Sol Aragones joined the inspection alongside Dr. Odilon Inoncillo and Dr. Petersan Uy, reviewing construction progress, safety measures, and readiness of the facility to provide expanded and improved care for patients.

Despite earlier construction challenges, the hospital project is now moving steadily. According to the foreman, work continues uninterrupted with safety as the top priority.

Governor Aragones emphasized the importance of careful planning and structural integrity, saying, “Basta pinaplano n’yo nang mabuti at safe siya. Kahit lumindol, safe ‘yung structure.” This reflects the provincial government’s commitment to both safety and quality in public healthcare infrastructure.

Once completed, the hospital’s new structure will significantly improve patient care and capacity. The first floor will house critical equipment such as oxygen tanks and the Emergency Room, allowing patients to be transferred immediately. The second and third floors will serve as wards, the fourth floor for offices, and the fifth floor as a dormitory for patients and staff.

The upgraded Emergency Room will accommodate 20 to 25 beds, doubling the existing 10 bed capacity, enabling the hospital to respond more effectively to medical emergencies.

Governor Aragones urged careful but timely completion, emphasizing early usability of the Emergency Room. “Foreman, ang hiling ko lang po, medyo bilisan natin. Although nakikita ko ginagawa n’yo nang maayos kasi ang target natin ay ‘yung safety, na ‘yung ER magamit agad natin,” she said, adding, “Malipat agad talaga natin kasi gusto ko talaga agad malipat na ‘yung mga pasyente dito.” The governor also committed to regular inspections, with a target of three months for overall completion and May as the expected operational date for the first floor.

The Dr. JP Rizal District Hospital upgrade is a project of the Provincial Government of Laguna under the leadership of Governor Sol Aragones, reflecting a strong push to expand healthcare access, enhance emergency response, and ensure safer, more efficient facilities for patients and staff across the province.
