Teacher-Bride-to-Be Killed in Calamba Crash Weeks Before April Wedding; Fiancé Injured

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna — A 27-year-old teacher who was set to be married in April 2026 was killed in a predawn collision along JP Rizal Street, Barangay 6, on February 22, authorities said.

Police identified the fatality as Crislyn Paro, a resident of Dampa Street, Palingon, Calamba City. She was riding as a passenger on a Honda ACB125 motorcycle driven by her fiancé, Miguel August Balmaceda Ocampo, 26, of Barangay Bucal, Calamba City. The couple was reportedly engaged and preparing for their wedding in April.

The incident occurred at around 4:31 a.m. but was reported to the Calamba City Component Police Station at about 9:22 a.m. the same day. It is being investigated as reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injuries, and damage to property.

Initial investigation and review of barangay CCTV footage showed that the motorcycle was traveling along JP Rizal Street toward Crossing, Barangay Uno, when a white Toyota Wigo driven by Jebson Geca Calderon, 32, of Barangay Looc, Calamba City, entered the intersection from M.H. Del Pilar Street, Barangay 4.

Authorities said the Toyota Wigo was about to cross JP Rizal Street—a one-way road—heading toward Lopez Jaena Street when it suddenly moved into the intersection, resulting in a collision with the approaching motorcycle.

The impact threw both Paro and Ocampo onto the pavement. They were immediately transported by a responding city ambulance to Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Hospital. Ocampo was later transferred to AMSI Doctors Hospital for further treatment, while Paro was brought to Pamana Hospital.

A medical certificate indicated that Paro sustained a traumatic brain injury. She was pronounced dead at about 6:45 a.m. by attending physician Dr. Jerico Gatdulo.
Both vehicles sustained damage, the extent of which has yet to be determined.

The driver of the Toyota Wigo was turned over to authorities by members of the Traffic Management and Road Unit and is subject to an alcohol test as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police are preparing the necessary documents for the filing of appropriate charges against the driver of the Toyota Wigo.
