CALAMBA CITY, LAGUNA — A junk shop in Barangay Canlubang was engulfed by fire during Holy Week 2026, adding to a series of fire incidents that have recently tested communities across the city.


Local authorities responded promptly to contain the blaze, while affected residents scrambled to salvage what remained of their livelihoods. No casualties have been reported as of this writing, but the fire caused significant damage to property and disrupted nearby operations.


Mayor Roseller “Ross” H. Rizal personally visited the site shortly after the incident to oversee relief operations and extend immediate assistance to affected families. The city government distributed relief goods, go bags, and financial aid to help residents begin recovery.


“In the midst of danger and uncertainty, we once again came together for our fellow citizens in Barangay Canlubang who were affected by the fire. We immediately responded to deliver assistance—relief goods, go bags, and financial aid—to somehow ease the burden they are carrying,” Mayor Rizal said.


“In every incident like this, we are reminded that fire does not only destroy homes, but also tests our unity and compassion for one another. Yet despite this, the spirit of bayanihan remains alive—helping without expecting anything in return.”


The mayor also urged residents to remain vigilant, especially during the dry season when fire risks are heightened.


“May this serve as a reminder for all of us to be more careful and responsible in our homes and surroundings. Simple precautions can save lives and livelihoods. Let us continue to watch over one another, help each other, and show compassion—because in times of disaster, every life matters,” he added.


The incident underscores a troubling pattern of consecutive fires in Calamba City during the observance of Holy Week 2026, raising concerns among local officials and residents alike. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire while reinforcing fire safety measures across barangays.
