CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal — The Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division has expressed full support for the conduct of legitimate fact-finding missions by civil society groups in Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro, following a series of encounters in the area and the successful rescue of Filipino-American Chantal Anicoche.

In a statement released on Tuesday, February 10, the Division said the fact-finding missions were carried out by recognized civil society organizations that formally sought permission, observed established protocols, and conducted courtesy calls with local government units and concerned agencies prior to entering the affected communities.

The mission was composed of representatives from the academe, young professionals, the Hands Off Our Children Movement, and Buklod Kapayapaan Federation Inc., all of whom closely coordinated with local authorities during their activities. The group was also joined by the brother of Jerlyn Doydora, a young woman who was previously deceived into joining the terrorist New People’s Army (NPA) and whose death has been repeatedly used by groups linked to the armed movement to push propaganda narratives.

During the visit, Jerlyn’s brother was accompanied to the area where her remains were recovered, allowing him and the participating civil society representatives to personally verify the actual conditions and circumstances on the ground.

At the same time, humanitarian and community-based activities were conducted in the affected areas, led by local government units in coordination with community leaders, to address the immediate needs of residents following the incidents.

2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division Spokesperson and Public Affairs Office Chief Colonel Michael Aquino said the Division welcomes both the conduct and the outcomes of these fact-finding missions, stressing their role in promoting transparency and countering misinformation.

“We welcome legitimate fact-finding missions by civil society groups that follow proper procedures and engage openly with local authorities. These initiatives contribute to a clearer and more truthful understanding of what transpired on the ground,” Col. Aquino said.

He added that the Division remains open to similar initiatives and continues to support transparent processes rooted in facts and accountability.

“The 2nd Infantry Division remains steadfast in its duty to safeguard local communities, protect civilians, and support lawful humanitarian and fact-finding efforts. We encourage continued engagement that is anchored on truth, respect for due process, and genuine concern for the welfare of affected communities,” Aquino emphasized.
