The Social Security System (SSS) is set to significantly broaden financial inclusion in the Philippines as it announced that its MySSS Card will soon be accessible to members in unbanked and underserved areas. This development comes after EastWest Rural Bank (EWRB) officially became the first rural bank authorized to issue the card.


The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement signed by SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Joseph M. de Claro and EWRB President Shiela Marasigan-Bajado. The agreement empowers the rural bank to roll out MySSS Cards, with a focus on reaching members in remote and rural communities, while still being available to qualified members nationwide.


De Claro emphasized that the initiative is a major step toward simplifying disbursement account enrollment and enhancing convenience for SSS members. The MySSS Card serves a dual purpose—functioning both as an official SSS identification card and a debit card, enabling easier access to benefits and everyday financial transactions.


“The MySSS card also allows SSS to provide digital payment facilities for our registrants, members, pensioners, and beneficiaries,” De Claro said, underscoring its role in modernizing benefit distribution.
To ensure secure issuance, SSS will utilize the national ID database to verify applicants as legitimate members. This system strengthens identity validation while ensuring accurate and efficient benefit disbursement directly to the linked accounts.


For her part, Bajado shared that the streamlined application process for the MySSS Card will soon be available across EWRB’s 112 branches and branch-lite units nationwide, particularly in underserved areas in the Visayas and Mindanao. The card will also be accessible through cross-selling desks inside EastWest Bank branches via digital channels.


EWRB will offer additional benefits to cardholders, including waived maintaining balance requirements. Members can also earn interest once their savings reach at least ₱500, providing an opportunity to grow their funds while enjoying flexible banking features.


The partnership builds on a longstanding collaboration between SSS and EWRB, which dates back to 2017 when the rural bank was recognized at the SSS Balikat ng Bayan Awards for its outstanding service as a collecting and paying partner.


With this initiative, SSS aims to bring essential financial services closer to millions of Filipinos, especially those in remote areas, ensuring that no member is left behind in the country’s shift toward digital and inclusive finance.
