New CALAX Segment Opens Gateway to Investments, Jobs, and Development in Cavite

The opening of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) Subsection 3, which extends the expressway up to the Governor’s Drive Interchange in General Trias City, is expected to further strengthen Cavite’s economic growth and development.

With CALAX now spanning 26 kilometers from Mamplasan in Biñan, Laguna, to General Trias, Cavite, government officials, community leaders, and business stakeholders have expressed optimism over the opportunities that the new infrastructure project will bring to the province. The expressway is seen as a key development that will improve connectivity between major economic centers, support business expansion, and encourage more investments in the area.

Among those who welcomed the opening of the new subsection was Florencio Ayos, President of the Gen Tri Business Club, who described the project as a significant milestone for General Trias and neighboring communities. He noted that the new segment substantially shortens travel time between Laguna and Cavite’s industrial hubs, reducing the journey to approximately 26 minutes.

According to Ayos, the improved accessibility brought by the expressway strengthens General Trias’ position as an attractive destination for investors and entrepreneurs. He emphasized that infrastructure projects such as CALAX do more than improve transportation, as they also help create opportunities for businesses, generate employment, and contribute to economic resilience.

“We are no longer a destination that is hard to reach—we are now a city that is impossible to ignore. Infrastructure is not just about roads; it is about opening doors for every Filipino entrepreneur. General Trias is now better positioned than ever to attract investments, generate employment, and build a more resilient economy,” Ayos said.

General Trias City Mayor Luis “Jon Jon” Ferrer IV likewise underscored the importance of the new interchange, describing it as a gateway to greater opportunities for residents and businesses. He said that as General Trias continues to develop as a center of industry and progress, projects such as CALAX play a vital role in bringing economic opportunities closer to the people.

“Habang patuloy na lumalago ang General Trias bilang sentro ng industriya at kaunlaran, mahalaga ang proyektong tulad nito upang mas mailapit ang mga oportunidad sa ating mga kababayan,” Mayor Ferrer said.

The benefits of the project were also highlighted by Dasmariñas City Mayor Jennifer Barzaga, who pointed out that the expressway improves access not only to commercial establishments but also to educational institutions and tourism destinations. She said the project represents more than the construction of a new roadway, as it also contributes to enhancing the quality of life of residents.

“Ang proyektong ito ay hindi lamang tungkol sa bagong kalsada, ito ay tungkol sa mas magandang kalidad ng buhay. Ang CALAX ay simbolo ng patuloy na progreso at ng ating sama-samang pangarap para sa isang mas maunlad, mas konektado, at mas maaliwalas na kinabukasan para sa bawat mamamayan,” Mayor Barzaga said.

Local leaders also cited the positive impact of the expressway on surrounding communities. Barangay Adlas in Silang, Cavite, Captain Joelito Generoso said the opening of the CALAX Governor’s Drive segment has already contributed to the creation of business opportunities, the opening of new jobs, and the increase in land values within the area.

Generoso added that the project has also helped boost tourism activities and improve the transport of goods, providing benefits to both local businesses and residents.

Meanwhile, Barangay San Francisco in General Trias City Captain Ryan Santor emphasized the long-term advantages that improved accessibility can bring to communities near the expressway. He said the opening of CALAX Subsection 3 is expected to encourage investments while making the movement of goods and services more efficient.

“We believe that the opening of CALAX SS3 will bring lasting benefits to nearby communities through improved connectivity, increased investments, and easier transportation of goods and services,” Santor said.

Beyond reducing travel time between Cavite and Laguna, the opening of CALAX Subsection 3 is expected to further strengthen trade activities, support business growth, and enhance Cavite’s competitiveness as an investment destination.

CALAX is a project of MPCALA Holdings Inc., with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) serving as the project grantor. MPCALA Holdings Inc., the developer and operator of CALAX, is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the toll road arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC).
