CALAMBA CITY, Laguna — The City Government of Calamba commemorated the 128th Philippine Independence Day with a solemn and patriotic ceremony held at the Calamba City Hall on Friday, June 12, 2026.

The program opened with the singing of the Philippine national anthem, Lupang Hinirang, and the Calamba Hymn, accompanied by the raising of the Philippine flag, symbolizing unity, patriotism, and remembrance of the sacrifices made by Filipino heroes in the country’s struggle for freedom.

A group of young students also staged a cultural performance depicting the painful period of oppression endured by the Filipino people during the country’s struggle for freedom. Their presentation highlighted the hardships, sacrifices, and resilience of Filipinos in the pursuit of independence.

In his message, Mayor Roseller “Ross” H. Rizal underscored the importance of safeguarding the freedom won by previous generations.


“Sa paggunita natin sa Ika-128 na Taon ng Araw ng Kalayaan ng Pilipinas, inaalala natin ang katapangan, pagkakaisa, at pagmamahal sa bayan ng mga Pilipinong nagsakripisyo upang makamtan ang ating kalayaan.
Tulad ng sinabi ni dating Pangulong Corazon Aquino, “We are free because we decided collectively to be free. Nothing could stand in the way of our freedom.” Ang kalayaan ay bunga ng sama-samang pagkilos at matibay na paninindigan ng sambayanan.
Nawa’y magsilbi itong paalala na sa ating pagkakaisa at pagtutulungan, kaya nating harapin ang anumang hamon at patuloy na itaguyod ang isang mas maunlad, mapayapa, at mas matatag na Pilipinas.
Mabuhay ang Kalayaan! Mabuhay ang Sambayanang Pilipino!”

“Pagpapatunay na ang kapangyarihan ay nasa mamamayan. Alagaan ang kalayaang ipinamana ng ating mga ninuno,” Mayor Rizal said.

The celebration also paid tribute to the resilience and sacrifices of Filipinos throughout history, whose efforts paved the way for the freedom that every Filipino enjoys today.

The event concluded with a heartfelt rendition of Bayan Ko as doves were released into the sky, symbolizing peace, hope, and liberty. A fireworks display also capped the ceremony, adding color and excitement to the occasion. The powerful bursts of fireworks surprised some attendees as they echoed across the sky.

The commemoration served as a reminder of the enduring value of freedom and the shared responsibility of every Filipino to protect and uphold the legacy passed down by the nation’s heroes.
