Camp BGen Vicente P Lim – The Police Regional Office CALABARZON honored the 2 Explosive Detection Dogs during a retirement ceremony thru “Salamat Kaibigan Program” coinciding with the Friday Flag Lowering Ceremony held at PRO4A Grandstand, Camp BGen Vicente P. Lim Grandstand, afternoon of November 4.

The EOD Canine Dogs were named “Sky” and “Gambit” were declared retired from law enforcement duties as police service dog effective August 22, 2022, pursuant to General Guidelines Number 6 of the Philippine National Police Memorandum Circular Number 2017-069.

“Sky” and “Gambit” were both male Belgian Malinois that were appointed on June 25, 2018, and rendered duties for PRO CALABARZON and Philippine National Police.

“Sky” served for a period of 4 years, 1 month and 28 days under the care of its handler Police Staff Sergeant Froilan Y Castillo. “Gambit” served for 3 years, 6 months and 2 days but passed away because of sickness on December 27, 2021 under the care of its handler Police Staff Sergeant Remigio A Ubaldo Jr. Both canine dogs were assigned in the Regional Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit 4A.

PRO CALABARZON Regional Director, PBGEN Jose Melencio C Nartatez Jr expressed his immense gratitude to the 2 canine dogs for the invaluable help in the detection of explosives beyond human senses thereby preventing possible atrocities that may be caused with the use of explosives, illegal drugs and firearms.

“Hindi man nila maintidihan ang ating pagpupugay sa kanila, nais kong iparating ang pasasalamat sa kanilang serbisyo sa ating bayan. Sinisigurado ko sa inyong lahat lalo na kay “Sky” na hinding hindi natin sya pababayaan at aalagaan sya ng may pagmamahal. Isa lamang itong paraan upang maibalik ng PRO 4A sa ating mga alagang detection dogs ang parangal at pagkilala sa kanilang paglilingkod sa ating mga mamamayan,” PBGEN Nartatez said.

Sky was adopted and will be taken care of by his handler Police Staff Sergeant Castillo. The retirement honors for these service dogs was the first one done by PRO 4A to honor their invaluable services to the PNP and the community.(RPIO4A)
