GINISA ng ilang Senador ang mga opisyal ng Department of Agriculture at Bureau of Customs sa patuloy na mala-alahas na presyo ng sibuyas sa kabila ng simula na ng anihan sa bansa.
Sa hearing ng Senate committee on Agriculture nitong Lunes, sinermonan nina Sen. Imee Marcos, Sen. Cynthia Villar at Sen. Raffy Tulfo ang mga DA at BOC official dahil sa kawalan ng aksyon laban sa mga bigtime smuggler ng sibuyas.
Nagtataka si Marcos na hanggang ngayon ay tila tengang kawali si BOC Commissioner Yogi Ruiz laban sa bigtime smugglers na namamayagpag sa kanilang iligal na aktibidad.
Hinamon pa ni Marcos si Comm. Ruiz na humarap sa susunod na pagdinig ng Senado para sagutin ang mga isyung may kaugnayan sa smuggling activities sa aduana.
Suspetsa ni Marcos na merong anyang “a level of treachery and manipulation” sa isyu ng sibuyas dahil sa hindi maipaliwanag na presyo nito.
“The price of onions had taken us on this mad roller coaster ride during the last few months. It is apparent that there is an abject lack of planning (on the part of DA) therefore. There seems to be as well a level of treachery and manipulation involved because these prices are inexplicable. Cruel and unusual punishment has also been meted out upon OFWs who have been arrested in their attempt to bring in onions from Dubai and elsewhere,” ayon kay Marcos
Naniniwala ang Senadora na ang kakapusan ng suplay at pagsirit ng presyo ng sibuyas ay dahilan sa kawalan ng planning ng DA at hindi napapanahong importasyon ng produkto.
“The shortage of onion supply in the country could’ve been averted if the DA made a “timely” and “well-projected” minimal importation,” dagdag pa ni Marcos
Tinukoy naman ni Senador Villar ang mga bigtime smuggler na sina Leah “Luz” Cruz, Manuel Tan, Juan Diamante at Andrew Chang pero hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa rin sila nahuhuli at nakakasuhan sa hukuman.
