Via DTI Laguna

Majayjay, Laguna — The Department of Trade and Industry – Laguna Provincial Office (DTI-Laguna), through its Negosyo Center Majayjay and in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), conducted a seminar on setting up a business and basic bookkeeping last 16 March 2023, Thursday, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, at Majayjay Gat Yantok Covered Court, Brgy. Sta. Catalina, Majayjay, Laguna. The initial 75 target beneficiaries of DSWD SLP participated in the activity.

The program was hosted by Mr. John Paulo Amat, Project Development Officer II of DSWD SLP, RO IV-A. It started with an opening prayer followed by recognition of guests and participants. Amat gave some reminders to the participants as to why do they need to attend the said event and how it will help them throughout the program. He then continued the program by introducing the speaker Ms. Rica Mae E. Garcia, Business Counselor of Negosyo Center Majayjay.

Garcia started the seminar with the discussion on Consumer Education specifically on Consumer Rights and Responsibilities. This was followed by the discussion on setting up a business wherein Garcia elaborated the pros and cons and the nine (9) steps in starting a business. Lastly, she discussed the basics of bookkeeping and understanding financial statements. To further equip and make the entire learning experience of the participants complete, a simple workshop on solving a case study relatively to record keeping was practiced.

The seminar received positive comments from the participants and they expressed their satisfaction with the learning activity. All of the participants who answered the Client Satisfaction Form graded the activity passed. Overall, the SMERA program was commended by the potential micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs who were pleased to join the future seminars, mentoring and coaching sessions of Negosyo Center Majayjay.

All the beneficiaries were very grateful for being chosen as recipients of DSWD SLP. They expressed their gratitude for this opportunity to start and improve their existing business climate in their area and to DTI-Laguna in giving free entrepreneurship seminars. (RMEGarcia, DTI-Laguna)
