36 Former Rebels (FRs) in Quezon received cash and livelihood assistance thru the collaboration of the Philippine Army particularly the 1st Infantry Battalion of the 2nd Infantry Division, the Department of Social Welfare and Development 4A, and the Local Government Unit of Quezon, held at the Headquarters of 1IB, Brgy. Tongohin, Infanta, Quezon on June 8, 2023, Thursday.

The activity is a significant step towards achieving lasting peace and inclusive development and aims to support the reintegration of the FRs into the mainstream of society.

Recognizing the importance of socioeconomic stability in fostering lasting peace, the 202nd “Unifier” Brigade having operational control over 1IB, has undertaken various efforts to address the root causes of conflict and promote reconciliation. Through this initiative, the concerned government agencies extend a helping hand to former rebels by providing them with opportunities for sustainable livelihood programs.

During the event, Usec. Alan A. Tanjusay of DSWD, Office for Inclusive and Sustainable Peace, highlighted the government’s goal of attaining sustainable peace and emphasized the significance of reintegrating FRs into the community. He reiterated that the assistance provided is part of the government’s comprehensive integration program designed to support the FR’s transition to a normal life.

The assistance package includes a cash grant, which will help FR recipients alleviate immediate financial burdens and provide the means to meet their basic needs. Additionally, the beneficiaries received training, resources and other support to establish hog-raising venture. This livelihood assistance aims to empower the FRs to become self-reliant and self-sufficient particularly in providing for their family’s needs.

In his statement, Brigadier General Cerilo C Balaoro Jr., Commander, 202nd Infantry Brigade, expressed his gratitude to concerned government agencies for their collaboration and support in implementing said program. “Your collective efforts manifest your commitment to achieving lasting peace and social cohesion in the region particularly in Quezon province towards the attainment of an environment conducive to long-lasting peace, stability, and prosperity,” he added.

It can be recalled that on April 11, 2023, 41 former rebels in Quezon province received ECLIP grants facilitated by DILG.
