CAVINTI, LAGUNA – The municipality of Morong is now an insurgency-free town in the province of Rizal following the ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding held at Municipal Building, Audio-Visual Room 2nd Floor, Morong, Rizal, today, October 17, 2023.
The declaration of Stable Internal Peace and Security (SIPS) status was conferred by an inter-agency body after successfully meeting the criteria, specifically the absence of recorded NPA violent activities for at least one year.
In his speech, Mayor Sidney B. Soriano, Municipal Task Force ELCAC Chief, lauded the combined efforts of the various government entities and his constituents for the declaration. The Local Chief Executive continued, “We know that this proclamation is what our people desire as it would usher in more employment and economic opportunities in our municipality,” he added.
The Local Chief Executive maintained that the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) and its Sectoral Front Organizations (SFOs) are not welcome in their peace-loving community.
BGen Cerilo C. Balaoro, Jr, the Commander, 202nd Infantry (UNIFIER) Brigade, lauded the LGU of Morong for declaring the municipality insurgency-free. He also reiterated his call to the remaining members of the CPP-NPA to return to the folds of the law, join the mainstream of society, and avail the benefit from the reintegration program of the government. “Let us join hands and continue to support the government’s initiatives to end the local communist armed conflict,” BGen Balaoro Jr., added.
The declaration of LGUs at the city and municipal levels is aimed at building community resilience against CTG recovery. The municipality of Morong was the 10th town in Rizal next to Binangonan, San Mateo, Pililla, Cardona, Teresa, Tanay, Baras, Angono, and Cainta to be declared as insurgency-free, while the other municipal LGUs have started their respective Local Peace Engagements toward the declaration of SIPS status.
