The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-CALABARZON conducted its Food Safety Team (FST) Training of Trainers at Monte Vista Resort, Calamba City, Laguna from 7-10 November.

Staff from the different Provincial Science and Technology Offices (PSTOs) of DOST-CALABARZON, Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU)-San Pablo City Campus, Southern Luzon State University (SLSU)-Lucena Campus, Department of
Trade and Industry (DTI)-Rizal, and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Rizal has attended in order to further support, monitor, and enhance the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the region. The 4-day training was spearheaded by the members of the DOST-CALABARZON Food Safety Unit (FSU), Ms. Diane Z. Ulan, Science Research Specialist II; Ms. Amiel G. Lacdan, Project Technical Assistant I; and Maria Ramiella E. Morales,
Project Technical Assistant I.

On the first training day, Mr. Mhark Ellgine A. Libao, Science Research Specialist II,
and Mr. John Maico M. Hernandez Science, Research Specialist I of PSTO-Batangas then presented a lecture on Basic Food Hygiene. Ms. Niña Sherylle S. Giron, Science Research Specialist II of PSTO-Rizal then conducted the
workshop.

On the second day, Ms. Wilma G. del Rosario Science Research Specialist II of PSTO-Laguna, and Ms. Maria Teresa A. Pamplona, Science Research Specialist I of the DOST-CALABARZON Regional Office (RO) discussed Food Safety Hazards.

Meanwhile, Ms. Anna Marie Sisante-Daigan, Science Research Specialist II of PSTO-Cavite, and Mr. John Michael A. Florendo, Science Research Specialist II of PSTO-Quezon discussed Good Manufacturing Practices on the third day

In the last session of the training, Ms. Marfil M. De Luna, Food-Drug Regulation Officer III of the Center for Food Regulation and Research (CFRR)-Licensing Section, and Ms. Pia M. Flora Food-Drug Regulation Officer II of the CFRR-Registration Section of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lent their expertise to the topics of FDA-License-to-Operate (LTO) and Certificate of Product Registration (CPR) Application Process.

Ms. Emelita P. Bagsit, Regional Director and Engr. Francisco R. Barquilla III, Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations of DOST-CALABARZON capped off the FST Training of Trainers with a Pledge of Commitment in order to uphold the duty of the new members of the FST for a stronger and safer CALABARZON.
