Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is a significant traditional Chinese holiday celebrated at the turn of the lunar calendar. It marks the beginning of the lunar new year and usually falls between January 21 and February 20.
Key features of the celebration include family reunions, feasts, the giving of red envelopes (containing money for good luck), and various cultural activities. Each year is associated with one of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals, and 2024 is the Year of the Dragon.
Traditional decorations, such as red lanterns and banners, are used to symbolize good luck and prosperity. The festivities typically last for 15 days, culminating in the Lantern Festival. During this period, people engage in various customs and rituals to ward off evil spirits and welcome good fortune for the coming year.
