Senator Padilla defended Quiboloy, portraying him as a hero and victim, while Senator Villar, acknowledging her friendship with the religious leader, expressed doubt about the credibility of the case against Quiboloy.

Senator Robin Padilla expressed his personal view that Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC), is both a hero and a victim amidst efforts to issue a contempt order against him. Dismissing allegations that he is taking sides with Quiboloy, Padilla clarified his perspective during a press conference on Thursday.

“May sarili akong dahilan. Ang sarili kong dahilan – para sa akin, naging biktima si Pastor kasi nilabanan niya ang New People’s Army (NPA). Yan ang sarili ko,” he said.
(I have my own reasons. My own reason – for me, Pastor became a victim because he fought the NPA. That’s me.)

Senator Cynthia Villar confirmed her endorsement of a written objection against Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, stating that she signed it the previous day. She emphasized her friendship with Quiboloy, describing him as kind to her family. Expressing skepticism about the ongoing case, Villar questioned the circumstances surrounding it, indicating her hesitation to believe in its validity.

“Pumirma ako kahapon. Kaibigan ko si Pastor Quiboloy. Mabait siya sa aming pamilya. Nagtataka ako dyan sa case na ‘yan kaya medyo ‘di ako naniniwala dyan sa case na ‘yan.”
