On May 9, 2024, at approximately 7:30 PM, law enforcement agencies made a significant breakthrough in the ongoing battle against illegal drugs. Operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office IV-A Special Enforcement Team 2, PDEA Regional Office National Capital Region-Southern District Office, Regional Drug Enforcement Unit 4A, and Las Piñas City Police Station joined forces to conduct a meticulously planned buy-bust operation in Las Piñas City.

The operation unfolded along Saging Street, corner Strawberry St., CAA, Las Piñas City, targeting individuals suspected of involvement in high-level drug trafficking. The arrested suspects were identified as Roselle Panganiban alias Rosel, a 34-year-old female; Renato Mariscotes, a 49-year-old male; Datumanor Butuan, a 41-year-old male; and Leonardo Montero, a 42-year-old male.

The suspects’ backgrounds varied, with Roselle Panganiban listed as jobless, Renato Mariscotes employed as a construction worker/painter, Datumanor Butuan working as a street sweeper/janitor, and Leonardo Montero as a carpenter. Despite their diverse occupations, they all found themselves ensnared in the illegal drug trade.

The joint operation yielded a substantial haul, with law enforcement seizing approximately 500 grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated street value of Php3,400,000.00. Alongside the illicit drugs, authorities also confiscated the buy-bust money, further disrupting the drug syndicate’s operations.

The apprehended individuals now face charges for violating Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) Article II of RA 9165, commonly known as The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This law aims to curb the proliferation of illegal drugs by imposing severe penalties on those involved in their production, sale, distribution, and trafficking.

The successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to eradicate the drug menace plaguing communities. By collaborating across different units and jurisdictions, authorities can effectively target and apprehend high-value drug personalities, thereby dismantling drug networks and preventing further harm to society.

Efforts to combat illegal drugs remain ongoing, with authorities continuously adapting strategies to stay ahead of drug syndicates. While significant progress has been made, the fight against drugs is an ongoing battle that requires sustained vigilance and cooperation from all sectors of society.
