Calamba City, Laguna—A significant drug bust operation led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) resulted in the seizure of ecstasy tablets worth approximately Php508,300.00. The operation, which took place on the evening of May 19, 2024, was conducted in an open parking lot of a mall in Barangay Marawoy, Lipa City.

The coordinated effort involved the PDEA Regional Office IV-A Special Enforcement Team 1 and 2, the PDEA Batangas Provincial Office, and the Lipa City Police Station. The meticulous planning and execution of the buy-bust operation culminated in the arrest of Raihana Basheron y Macarampat, a 31-year-old vendor from Barangay General Luna, Dinalupihan, Bataan, identified as a high-value drug personality.

During the operation, law enforcement officers seized 299 tablets suspected to be ecstasy from Basheron’s possession. These tablets have an estimated street value of Php508,300.00. Additionally, the buy-bust money used in the operation was also recovered from the suspect.

The arrest and seizure are significant due to Basheron’s alleged role in the illegal drug trade within the region. Authorities have tagged her as a high-value target, indicating her importance and potential connections within the broader drug distribution network in Batangas and neighboring areas.

The suspect will face charges for violating Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) of Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This law imposes severe penalties on those involved in the sale and distribution of illegal drugs, reflecting the government’s stern stance on drug-related offenses.

The successful operation underscores the PDEA’s commitment to intensifying its efforts against illegal drugs and its continuous collaboration with local police units to ensure safer communities. The agency encourages the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid in the fight against drug trafficking.
