Philippine Army Hails Legal Victory as Two CPP-NPA Members Convicted for Firearms Violations

The Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division (2ID) has praised the recent conviction of two members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA). The Department of Justice Task Force on Counter-Terrorism I (DOJ-TFCT 1) confirmed the successful conviction after a thorough investigation and legal process involving Arnulfo Aumentado, also known as “Aryo” and “Inod,” and Mary Joyce Lizada, alias “Louise.”

On July 9, the Roxas, Mindoro Oriental Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 43 found both Aumentado and Lizada guilty of Unauthorized Issuance of Authority to Carry Firearm and Ammunition Outside of Residence and Illegal Transfer/Registration of Firearms. Each was sentenced to one year of imprisonment for each offense.

The charges stemmed from an April 26, 2023 operation in Barangay Santa Teresita, Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro, where Philippine Army troops apprehended the two individuals. The operation led to the confiscation of a carbine rifle, an Intratec submachine gun, an improvised hand grenade, and two blasting caps.

Maj. Gen. Roberto Capulong, Commander of the 2ID, credited the successful conviction to the tireless efforts of his troops in ensuring peace and security in Southern Tagalog. He emphasized that the ruling reinforces the rule of law and the government’s commitment to counter-terrorism efforts.

The 2ID continues its intensified operations against the CPP-NPA and other threat groups, remaining steadfast in its goal of securing lasting peace and development in the region.
