August 29, 2024  — A driver-bodyguard was killed while a department head survived an assassination attempt on Wednesday evening in Biñan City, Laguna.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. when two unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire at the service vehicle of the department chief, alias Ed, as it was driving through the city. The driver-bodyguard, alias Ron, 55, was shot multiple times and died instantly at the scene.

According to initial police investigations, Ron had just exited the vehicle to escort his boss when the attackers, armed with a short firearm, fired a series of shots. Ed, the department head, was unharmed in the attack.

Witnesses described one of the attackers as wearing a black jacket and helmet, while the other, seated at the back, was wearing a red T-shirt, blue cap, and black pants. The gunmen fled the scene on a red Honda motorcycle, heading in an unknown direction.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, but authorities have launched an investigation to identify the suspects and determine whether the department head was the intended target. Reports also indicate that the slain driver-bodyguard had a pending case related to a land dispute in Nueva Ecija, adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.

Police are currently conducting a manhunt for the assailants as they work to bring justice to the victim and ensure the safety of city officials.
