In a major breakthrough, Apollo Quiboloy, the controversial leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), surrendered to the Philippine National Police (PNP) after being given a strict 24-hour deadline. Quiboloy, who has been wanted in connection with charges of sexual abuse and human trafficking in both the Philippines and the United States, turned himself in on Sunday.

Authorities had made it clear that they were prepared to storm the KOJC compound in Davao City if Quiboloy did not comply with the ultimatum. His surrender was confirmed by Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, who shared the news publicly through social media.

Quiboloy has been a fugitive ever since charges were brought against him in both countries, making headlines for his alleged involvement in serious crimes, including sexual abuse and human trafficking. The PNP’s actions followed a broader international effort to hold him accountable.

The legal troubles surrounding Quiboloy began in 2021 when U.S. federal prosecutors indicted him on multiple charges, including sex trafficking of minors, fraud, and coercion. His religious organization, KOJC, has been under heavy scrutiny ever since, with accusations coming from former members and victims.

Back in the Philippines, the Senate had ordered his arrest after Quiboloy failed to appear at hearings investigating these allegations. The Senate inquiry focused on multiple testimonies and evidence related to the criminal activities allegedly linked to his church.

Quiboloy has consistently denied the accusations, claiming that the charges were part of a coordinated smear campaign against him by former followers and critics. Despite his claims of innocence, the pressure has mounted, culminating in his surrender.

With Quiboloy now in custody, the case is expected to accelerate, potentially leading to trials in both the Philippines and the United States. His arrest is seen as a significant step in addressing the serious allegations, marking a critical moment in his long-standing legal battle.
