September 13, 2024 — The Department of Health (DOH) has released a public health advisory cautioning the public against purchasing or availing Mpox vaccines that are reportedly being offered by certain organizations or individuals. These vaccines, which are claimed to be “imported” from abroad, have not undergone the necessary regulatory processes required by the DOH and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure their safety and efficacy.

According to the DOH, these purported vaccines have been brought into the country without the oversight of proper regulatory agencies, posing significant risks to public health. “Mpox vaccines require strict storage and handling conditions, such as maintaining the cold chain, to remain effective,” the DOH said in its advisory. “Without the safeguards of the DOH and FDA, there is no guarantee that these vaccines are safe or effective.”

The DOH urges the public to avoid engaging with unauthorized sources of the Mpox vaccine and to wait until these vaccines are legally available in the Philippines. Doing so ensures that the vaccine doses received are genuine and effective, providing real protection against Mpox rather than a false sense of security.

The DOH continues to monitor the situation and is working on making legitimate Mpox vaccines available once they have met all regulatory standards. The public is advised to remain vigilant and to rely only on information provided by official health authorities.
