₱340K Worth of Shabu and Firearm Seized in Laguna Buy-Bust; Suspect Arrested

September 14, 2024 – Santa Cruz, Laguna — A suspect, identified as “Erik” from Pangil, Laguna, was arrested during a buy-bust operation conducted by the Santa Cruz PNP, where illegal drugs worth ₱340,000 and a firearm were confiscated.

Acting Provincial Director of Laguna PPO, Police Colonel Gauvin Mel Y. Unos, confirmed the arrest of the suspect. He also mentioned that the operation was part of their ongoing efforts to curb illegal drug activities in the province.

Santa Cruz Police Chief, PLTCOL Mark Julius E. Rebanal, reported that the operation took place on September 13, 2024, at 9:15 PM in Barangay Gatid, Sta. Cruz, Laguna. The Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) led the mission, which ended with the successful arrest of the suspect.

The operation was carried out when Erik sold illegal drugs to a police officer posing as a buyer. After the transaction was completed, authorities moved in and arrested the suspect, seizing the drugs and other items in his possession.

Recovered from the suspect were three sachets of suspected shabu, weighing 50 grams and valued at ₱340,000. In addition to the illegal drugs, the police also confiscated a .45 caliber pistol, five rounds of ammunition, a sling bag, and the marked money used in the operation.

The suspect is now under the custody of the Santa Cruz Municipal Police Station. He is facing charges for violating RA 9165, the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002,” and RA 10591, the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.”

In a statement, PCOL Unos reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to intensifying their fight against illegal drugs. “The Laguna PNP will intensify operations against illegal drugs. Together with the community’s cooperation, we will eradicate the dangers posed by prohibited substances,” he said.
