The administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has taken a significant step towards advancing the nation’s research and development (R&D) by allocating P8.8 billion to the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Grants-In-Aid (GIA) Program. This initiative is designed to fuel economic growth through science, technology, and innovation by providing vital funding to projects aligned with the DOST’s priorities.

In his Budget Message, President Marcos emphasized that the GIA Program plays a key role in fostering innovation and driving sustainable development. The program will support various sectors, particularly those involved in research, technology transfer, human resources development, and information dissemination.

DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman highlighted the administration’s commitment to empowering innovators and researchers. “We will continue supporting programs like GIA to ensure that science and technology serve as powerful tools for societal advancement,” Pangandaman said.

The Harmonized National Research and Development Agenda (HNRDA) 2022-2028 will guide the funding and implementation of the country’s R&D initiatives. The Marcos administration also envisions the Philippines as a regional hub for smart and sustainable manufacturing, innovation, and creativity, allocating P28.8 billion to the DOST in the proposed FY 2025 budget.

This strategic investment in science and technology aims to accelerate the nation’s economic and social transformation, positioning the Philippines at the forefront of regional innovation.
