Calamba Water District Unveils High-Tech UV Water System and Septage Treatment Plant in Laguna

Calamba, Laguna – The Calamba Water District (CWD) recently hosted a media tour for selected journalists from the Calabarzon region to showcase its state-of-the-art facilities. Led by General Manager Exequiel “Jhun” Aguilar Jr., the tour highlighted the first UV technology system in Laguna, which reduces the use of chlorine in water disinfection. This innovation forms part of the CWD’s broader efforts to ensure safer and cleaner water for its consumers.

During the tour, Aguilar showcased the water system’s four 200-horsepower pumps that play a critical role in supplying water to the city. These pumps, along with other infrastructure upgrades, demonstrate CWD’s commitment to enhancing water distribution efficiency for its service area.

One of the most notable advancements is the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. Aguilar explained that the AI system monitors reservoir water levels in real-time, providing remote access via mobile devices. This advanced monitoring system ensures that water distribution remains optimal and efficient across Calamba.

In addition to the AI technology, the media was shown CWD’s pumping stations equipped with submerged CCTV cameras. These cameras monitor water clarity, ensuring that the water being distributed is of high quality and safe for public consumption. This transparency and attention to detail reinforce CWD’s dedication to providing clean water.

The highlight of the tour was the introduction of CWD’s newly inaugurated Septage Treatment Plant located in Barangay Palo Alto. The plant is a cornerstone of the “LINIS POSO NEGRO” service, which aims to tackle waste management more effectively. The facility complies with the Clean Water Act of 2004 and the Supreme Court’s Writ of Continuing Mandamus for the Preservation of Manila Bay, ensuring that waste disposal is handled sustainably.

At the treatment plant, solid and liquid waste from septic tanks are processed, with treated water being safely returned to the rivers. Aguilar emphasized that the plant not only addresses environmental concerns but also ensures a cleaner, safer city. The treatment plant is the first government-owned facility of its kind in Laguna, making it a significant milestone for the province.
