Senator Bong Go Denies Existence of P1-Million Reward System in Duterte’s Drug War

Senator Bong Go on Saturday categorically refuted allegations about a supposed “reward system” during former president Rodrigo Duterte’s war on illegal drugs, which allegedly offered up to P1 million per kill. Go made it clear that no such reward system was implemented in exchange for taking anyone’s life. His statements were in response to recent claims about extrajudicial rewards linked to the drug war.

The senator further dispelled accusations suggesting his involvement in managing funds related to the purported reward system. “Nais kong klaruhin na walang reward system na iniimplementa noon kapalit ang buhay ng sinuman,” Go stated, underscoring that these allegations were baseless and aimed at tarnishing the government’s anti-drug campaign. He reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law and due process, emphasizing that the drug war’s aim was to protect citizens and ensure the safety of communities.

The war on drugs, launched during Duterte’s presidency, was a central policy that aimed to eradicate illegal drugs and related criminal activities. While the campaign drew widespread support for its intention to combat crime, it also faced criticism and allegations of human rights abuses. The supposed existence of a reward system for killing suspects is now one of the most controversial claims surrounding that campaign.

Netizens commented that such accusations were politically motivated and part of an attempt to undermine the previous administration’s achievements. The efforts to fight illegal drugs were conducted in accordance with the law and that any wrongdoing by law enforcement personnel were investigated and prosecuted.
