Massive Water Service Interruption in Calamba Due to Damaged Main Water Line

Calamba, Laguna – Thousands of residents in Calamba are experiencing a major water supply disruption following damage to the main water line in Brgy. Bucal. The incident occurred at 3:25 a.m. on November 5, 2024, when a DPWH contractor struck an 800-mm steel pipe during a reblocking project near the PNR railroad.

According to Calamba Water District (CWD) General Manager Jhun Aguilar, emergency repair efforts are ongoing to address the extensive damage. The affected areas include Brgy. Masile, Sucol, Bagong Kalsada, Pansol, Bucal, Halang, Lecheria, Brgy. 1-7 (Poblacion), San Juan, Banadero, Sampiruhan, Palingon, and Lingga. Water service restoration is estimated by 6:00 a.m. on November 6.

CWD has initiated water rationing in several impacted neighborhoods to alleviate the inconvenience. “We thank everyone for their patience and understanding as our dedicated workers strive to restore the water supply as quickly as possible,” CWD said in a statement.

The incident has also caused severe traffic congestion across Calamba and Los Baños, affecting motorists, students, and commuters. Frustration has grown among residents, with some expressing dismay over the lack of advance notice for water storage and questioning the timing of the roadwork. However, it was clarified that the reblocking project was scheduled at night, and the water line damage was an unintentional mishap during the construction.

CWD urges the public to remain patient as emergency crews work tirelessly to complete the repairs and bring the situation under control.
