CALABARZON – Soldiers from the Army’s 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division (2ID) once again engaged in a firefight with members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in a remote village of Brgy. Villa Pag-asa, Bansud, Oriental Mindoro, on the afternoon of November 5.

According to a report from the 203rd Infantry Brigade (203Bde), the clash occurred around 5:10 p.m. when elements of the 76th Infantry Battalion (76IB) were conducting security operations in the area. The encounter lasted for 20 minutes before the NPA fighters retreated, leaving no casualties on the government side. Verification efforts are ongoing to determine any injuries or losses suffered by the NPA.

The 76IB troops successfully recovered an M16 rifle, an M16 rifle upper receiver, three hand grenades, a detonator switch, three M16 rifle magazines, and 30 rounds of ammunition. This recovery is viewed as a significant disruption of the NPA’s plans to incite fear within the community.

Maj. Gen. Cerilo Balaoro Jr., 2ID commander, praised the troops’ efforts and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order. He called on the remaining NPA members to abandon their armed struggle and reintegrate into society through the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).

“The government offers a helping hand for a brand-new start,” said Maj. Gen. Balaoro, stressing the continuous effort to bring peace to areas previously affected by insurgency. He highlighted recent setbacks suffered by the NPA, including the arrest of key leaders, recovery of weapons caches, and the declaration of many areas as having stable peace and security, thanks to unwavering community support.
