CALABARZON, Philippines – With Typhoon Nika fast approaching, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has issued a mandate for forced evacuations across high-risk regions in Luzon. DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla directed local governments to prioritize public safety by enforcing evacuation protocols to protect residents from potential floods, landslides, and storm surges.

The directive urges governors, mayors, and DILG Regional Directors to ensure residents in vulnerable areas are moved to safety, with full support from the Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire Protection. Authorities are on high alert, especially around major dams expected to release water due to anticipated heavy rainfall.

Local government units are also coordinating with the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and the Department of Social Welfare and Development to ensure that sufficient relief supplies are available for affected families. Emphasis is placed on safeguarding vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities.

Class Suspensions have been announced in multiple areas on Monday, November 11, 2024, due to the storm:

Metro Manila and nearby provinces: Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Makati, Caloocan, Valenzuela, among others, with varied levels of suspension from kindergarten to senior high school.

Luzon regions: Pangasinan, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, Baguio, Aurora, and more, covering all education levels.

The government advises residents to stay updated and cooperate with local authorities to ensure community safety.
