NPA Rebel Killed in Clash with Army in Famy, Laguna

Laguna, Philippines – A clash between the Army’s 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division (2ID) and the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Famy, Laguna, resulted in the death of an NPA member on Thursday afternoon, November 28.

According to reports from the 202nd Infantry Brigade, the encounter occurred during a security operation in Sitio Sigsigan, Barangay Bacong, following reports from concerned residents about alleged extortion activities in the area.

The troops were ambushed by an armed group, leading to a firefight. The rebels eventually fled, leaving one female NPA member, identified as Agnes Lingay—also known by her aliases Jimy, Judy, and Esek—dead at the scene.

Recovered from the site were a short firearm with a loaded magazine, a backpack, a handheld radio with a headset, assorted medicines, and personal belongings.

No casualties were reported on the side of government forces.

Maj. Gen. Cerilo Balaoro Jr., commander of the 2ID, expressed gratitude for the community’s support in providing intelligence that led to the operation. “The support of our fellow citizens is a testament to their confidence in our efforts to maintain peace and security. Rest assured, we remain committed to protecting our communities and responding promptly to any threats that endanger their safety and well-being,” he stated.

He reiterated that the government does not celebrate the loss of lives but remains steadfast in its mission to end insurgency and achieve lasting peace.

Maj. Gen. Balaoro also appealed to remaining members of the CTG to surrender and take advantage of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), which offers assistance to those who wish to leave the armed struggle and reintegrate into society peacefully.

Authorities continue to monitor the area and encourage public vigilance to ensure peace and order in the region.
