Soldiers from the Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) successfully engaged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in two separate encounters this week, thwarting the terrorist group’s activities in Southern Tagalog and adjacent areas.

The latest clash occurred on the morning of November 30 at the boundary of Barangays Pagasa and Dumagmang, Labo, Camarines Norte. Acting on reports from local residents about armed groups in the vicinity, troops from the 201st Infantry Brigade launched security operations. At 7:43 AM, the troops were fired upon, prompting a 25-minute firefight that forced the terrorists to flee, leaving behind one M16 rifle, a loaded magazine, two cell phones, subversive documents, and other personal belongings.

No government casualties were reported, but an undetermined number of the NPA’s wounded were seen retreating with the group.

This encounter follows another successful operation on November 29 in Famy, Laguna, where 2ID troops neutralized a female NPA member and recovered a short firearm.

Maj. Gen. Cerilo Balaoro Jr., 2ID Commander, commended the troops for their unwavering dedication and praised the community for their vital support in reporting suspicious activities. “The continuous partnership with the people is yielding results, as the remnants of the NPA in Southern Tagalog are losing ground,” Balaoro stated.

He emphasized the Army’s commitment to ensuring peace and security in the region and extended his gratitude to the community for their role in the fight against insurgency.

The Army vows to sustain its efforts to eradicate terrorist threats and maintain safety in the region.
