The University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) recently hosted a distinguished visit by Senator Pia S. Cayetano and Dr. Ricardo Baptista Leite, a prominent advocate of responsible artificial intelligence in healthcare and a representative of Health AI, a global non-profit organization. Their visit emphasized the importance of innovation and collaboration in improving health services across the country.

Dr. Gerardo Legaspi, director of PGH, led the visitors on a tour of the hospital’s museum, a repository of its storied history. He shared insights into the significant advancements in the country’s medical education and healthcare services over the years. PGH’s transformation into a world-class teaching institution was highlighted, demonstrating its impact on training generations of Filipino healthcare professionals.

As part of the visit, Cayetano and Leite discussed how innovations, including artificial intelligence, can enhance medical care delivery. They emphasized the need to bridge technology with compassion to create more responsive healthcare systems. The group also visited the Obstetrics-Gynecology ward, where Senator Cayetano interacted with mothers who had recently given birth.
